Cooking Onsen Tamago is an interesting activity in Nozawa Onsen!

"Onsen Tamago" this words is from Japanese, "Onsen (おんせん) " means hot spring and "Tamago (たまご) " means egg.

Onsen Tamago is cooking by hot spring (onsen) water.

What do the boxes in front of the hot spring do?

Some hot springs (onsen) of Nozawa Onsen have this kind of box.

This box is for "Cooking Onsen Tamago" , you can put eggs in the box. After a few minutes, an "Onsen Tamago" will be cooked.

How to cook Onsen Tamago?

The length of time for onsen cooking  depends on the temperature of the hot spring.

You could know onsen cooking time by the sign of the onsen ( bulletin )  board.

Ex, this onsen's cooking time is 16~17 mins.

Put eggs in the box.

Be sure to leave your bag outside, then you can pick up your eggs. 

After 17 mins, the Onsen Tamago are finish cooked! 

Onsen Tamago just likes over medium egg.  The best way to eat Onsen Tamago is with soy-bean sauce.
